Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory -- Louisville, Kentucky

When I traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, I stayed at a Courtyard by Marriott, which we try to stay at since we have so many Marriott points, it just works out to our advantage to stay at a Marriott owned hotel.  We have always had wonderful experiences at Marriott hotels.  We went to Louisville to have a different vacation that didn’t include a water park or an amusement park.
We enjoyed visiting the Louisville Slugger museum and seeing how the baseball bats are made.  Being a big baseball, and being from Detroit the Tigers are our only team we have to root for, we loved all the old photos and the history the museum had to offer.  They even have a batting cage area where we all took our turns, my brother won, of course.   After the Louisville Slugger museum, we still didn’t have our fill of baseball so we took in a minor league game of the Louisville Bats.  We enjoyed the game so much we took in another one while we were visiting the area.
We visited the University of Kentucky (as we visit any college or university in the area’s where we travel) and Churchill Downs, visiting the museum and also eating at the Derby Café.  Since the Kentucky Derby had already happened when we arrived we did get to see some of the horses that were on site.  The food at the Café was delicious.  This was the first time I had fried green tomatoes and let me tell you they are amazing.  I still haven’t had them since that tasted so good.

We also spent a lot of time at Fourth Street, a collection of bars, restaurants and shops as a two story outdoor mall in the middle is Fourth Street.  We bowled at Lucky Strike Bowling alley (fashioned after the bowling alley in “The Big Lebowski”).   This was a very fun time that the whole family enjoyed.  We got ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery, and just walked around in the sunshine.  We wanted to visit the Jack Daniels Distillery, but with it being an hour drive away and we had two minors with us, it didn’t seem like a good idea to make that trip during this vacation.
